Jamie Bartlett in his article “A Vision Of The Dark Future of Advertising” offers an interesting glimpse of a future where the marketing function will be driven by AI and of AI.
His thesis is based on by now widely held view that AI will in the coming decade or so transform most walks of life beyond recognition. In the field of marketing this transformation will be wrought by deep learning engines that chew up an ubiquitous overflow of data combined with autonomous AI-based systems that will create and target a marketing mix including marketing messaging customised not just to the individual but to the individual as defined by a specific time and place.
Scary? Perhaps.
But Jamie might have overlooked one aspect. What if most individuals in the coming world will be protected behind a layer of AI? In that case marketing by AI of AI will be forced to market to AI leaving us humans to enjoy an extra dollop of freedom (a post on my blog. A post on my blog dated April 25 2018 titled “Marketing to Bots – The Coming Paradigm Shift” envisages such a scenario.
The future could be brighter than what it used to be!
